With consulting, development work and outsourced production Mariachi helped a start-up company to establish its operations and create a breakthrough product for medical and food industry point-of-care diagnostics.

Customer company operating in Europe, the US and Asia outsourced several years ago the development and contract manufacturing of two models of its switching power supply products to Mariachi. Now, at the end of the product life cycle Mariachi is taking care of after sales services for these products.

“By outsourcing we were able to focus on our main technologies and at the same time be sure that we can offer these important products for our projects. The volumes are now declining but we still need production for some units annually and repair services and spare parts for many years to come, too. We are happy Mariachi is interested in this kind of small-scale production which is not always “sexy” enough for big players in the EMS business.”

Mariachi joined an international project team and developed a more automated product with unique features for a leading medical company.

Mariachi works closely together with this information technology company´s own product development department. They use Mariachi´s electronic component database for choosing and optimizing new products´ raw materials. NPI and prototype manufacturing services are linked with the product development, too.

“By using Mariachi´s component database we automatically benefit from volume purchases, keeping updated with possible last-time-buy (LTB) announcements and in many cases smoother ramp-down costs due to several users for the same component. With NPI and prototyping we benefit from Mariachi´s experience and we thus end up with a new field-proven robust automation unit sooner.”

A medical instrument company obtained IPR´s for a measuring instrument aimed at global markets, and already at the prototype stage. The product needed to be re-engineered totally, including all technical documentation, user manuals and user guide videos. Mariachi was responsible for hardware, embedded software, mechanical and industrial design and did all the subsequent prototypes. All re-engineering costs were recovered through a firm order for the first 1000 instruments.

“We needed to have the new generation product available as soon as possible but we did not have the money in our budget for that year. Mariachi shared some business risk with us and financed the re-engineering costs, which helped us to bring the product onto the market one year earlier. This gave us the leading position that we still hold globally.”
